Biography

I am an applied sociocultural anthropologist.  In recent years I have been involved with a series of collaborative projects regarding culture, environmental change, conservation, and resilience on the Bay Islands of Honduras.  My earlier work was concerned with the ‘production of consumers’ or the ways that cultural and economic systems shape consumption-related beliefs and behaviors.  Before graduate school, I was in the field of education.  I taught in several settings and worked for the U.S. Department of Education in Washington D.C.  Here at CSU, I am privileged to merge that background with the critical lenses, theoretical frameworks, and participatory methodologies provided by anthropology and other disciplines in my teaching and research.  Outside of academic life, I love recreating in the mountains, cooking, reading novels, and simply spending time with friends and family.  I also like to get around town on my bike and am grateful to live in a community that makes this an option!

Research

Environmental anthropology, conservation and sustainability, ecological grief, globalization, gender and international development, transnational migration, and the anthropology of pedagogy.
