Central Appalachia, because of its ties to fossil fuel industries, has been identified as a key site for transition, bringing in new rounds of investment. Given the region’s history of resource exploitation by absentee and corporate landowners, this talk asks: transition to what, for whom, and by what means? This talk will begin answering these questions through a discussion of the region’s emerging forest carbon economy.
